Our performance

Besides taking care of nature Bata Industrials exceptionally supports different projects. These projects often receive the aiding, sponsoring and guiding from Bata Industrials itself.

CamptoCampUS

In 2017 we participated in CamptoCampUS, a project by Movement on the Ground. A foundation responding to humanitarian crises affecting the innocent men, women and children forced from their homes by climate change, poverty and war. In 2017 the foundation was involved in the refugee crisis on the Greek Island Lesvos. The project aimed to redefine the hospitality of refugees from camps of deprivation and exploitation to environments where it is all about innovation, inspiration and education. We wanted to support this inspiring organisation and contributed by donating safety shoes and work socks.

World solar challenge

Every two years, for the past 30 years, the World Solar Challenge has welcomed the greatest minds from around the world to Australia to challenge the norms and travel the outback of 3,000 km in a vehicle powered only by the power of the sun. Teams consist of tertiary and secondary students from over 30 countries. These students and their support team engineer build a vehicle with their own hands and have to power it across some of the world’s most challenging landscape.

Bata Children’s Program

Since 2011 the community initiatives of the Bata Children’s Program have created brighter paths for children all over the planet. This independent, volunteer-driven program is backed by the Bata Children’s Program Foundation and the Bata Company.

All volunteers contributing their time are employees of Bata, with over 7,000 volunteers having participated already. Bata Children’s program provided eye exams for 1,700 schoolchildren in India. Optometrists and doctors filled out health records for each child after their exams, prescribing glasses for many of them. At awareness workshops, the children learned simple eye exercises and other ways to take care of their eyes, including following a healthy diet. Children’s eye health is important: Myopic children have trouble reading the blackboard, while hyperopic ones struggle to read books, for example.

BCP volunteer Barkha Kapoor, of Bata India’s e-commerce team, said, “What I liked most about this activity was that it was not just a check up camp – a separate session was undertaken with the children on eye care awareness, and a few problems were discussed on a case-by-case basis. Vision problems can adversely affect students’ ability to function at school and enjoy learning, so regular screening is essential for timely diagnosis and treatment.’’
