Help build an inclusive future!
On International Women’s Day, we draw attention to the construction industry where talent and passion count – not gender. Therefore, on this day, Bata Industrials puts successful women in construction in the spotlight, as an inspiration for the next generation.
The construction industry has long been a man’s world, but times are changing. More and more women are choosing careers in construction – and that’s good for everyone! Diversity brings new perspectives, innovative solutions and a stronger, more inclusive work environment.
Why is diversity in construction so important?
Because a diverse workplace leads to more innovation, better collaboration and a stronger industry. Diverse perspectives create new solutions, creativity and a work environment where everyone feels valued. But still women face prejudice, unequal opportunities and a lack of visible role models.
What can we do together?
- Hire and actively encourage more women into technical and construction professions.
- Make training and career opportunities more accessible to women.
- Create a work environment centered on respect, equality and collaboration.
- Highlighting successful women in construction as an inspiration for the next generation.
How does Bata Industrials contribute?
Every day at Bata Industrials, we are aware that true equality starts with the basics: the right equipment. No oversized work clothes or safety shoes that are too wide, but protective materials designed for all professionals. That is why, with a team of mostly women, we have launched the WHAWOWA collection, especially for women.
WHAWOWA means What Women Want. When it comes to safety shoes, we at Bata Industrials know exactly what women want. And these are not men’s shoes.
Judith Sanders, Footwear Product Developer explains: “Women, like men, want maximum safety, but also comfort, a good fit, lighter shoes and a stylish design. That’s why we did extensive research to create the best safety shoes for women.”
Emérence van Daalen, Marketing Director, adds, “Developing women’s work shoes was a challenge in a male-dominated industry, but after five years of research we are proud of the result.”
Judith Sanders: “Especially for the WHAWOWA collection, we have developed a last exclusively for the female foot. The result is a women’s shoe that is narrower at the heel and has more room at the forefoot and toes. The advantage of optimally fitting work shoes is that they are more comfortable, more stable and you get far fewer injuries. They are softer, have a finer entry and are more cushioning.”
Equal opportunity starts with equal protection
Employers are encouraged to give women the proper consideration by providing appropriate work shoes, which promotes both safety and work atmosphere. Invest in well-fitting safety shoes and protective clothing for women. Because when everyone feels safe and valued, not only does safety improve, but so does the work atmosphere.
